I recently wrote a guest blog on the subject of business inspiration. I was asked to choose one of the many people who inspire me in my working life and explain why. This was no mean feat as there are a number of people that I consider to be fabulous role models and fall into that category. I'm sure you'll understand why I chose this amazing lady.

Emily Wright of dōTERRA Essential Oils inspires me not only in my work, but also in my personal philosophy on life. In just 10 years, she has been pivotal in the growth of dōTERRA since its infancy, when there were a few bottles of oils and a small office space. Now, dōTERRA is a global, billion-dollar company with a state of the art headquarters and health centre.

As the only female founding executive, Emily helped pioneer progress in an under-regulated industry by creating the Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade standard. Subsequently, she raised the bar in essential oil purity across the world, supporting the health of millions in the process.

She is passionate about people, and has been instrumental in the development of dōTERRA’s co-impact sourcing initiative. This represents a commitment to enhancing the lives of farmers, harvesters, and distillers who contribute to the production of dōTERRA’s essential oils.

Emily’s passion for humanitarian causes extends to dōTERRA’s Healing Hands Foundation.  The Foundation helps fund projects like the building of schools and health clinics, together with putting in place basic infrastructure and ensuring provision of a clean water supply. This further impacts and enriches the local communities around the world where raw essential oil ingredients are sourced.

Why she inspires me

The list of achievements and realisation of goals continues. Emily Wright’s philanthropic influence and success in business is, in itself, more than enough to inspire.  However, what inspires me the most is that Emily has helped create all of this whilst being a busy Mum of four. She really has positively influenced the lives of so many!

I think the positive impact you have on others around you through your daily interactions is important when defining ‘success’. But for me it’s also about work life balance.  Being able to do what we’re passionate about, but not at the expense of our other loves, is crucial, but not always easy. It’s a very fine balancing act and requires commitment to all sides to make it work.  Achieving this balance is so important to the longevity of any enterprise.

When asked about her personal goals Emily says:

“I want to teach others, including my own children, that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to—that they have value beyond measure and can be a positive influence in the world.”

I think she is leading by example on that one!

Who inspires you to be and do your best, and why?
